The ASL 35 site belonging to the SMA oil field of western Sinai, Egypt caught fire during the morning hours of December 15th, 2018 due to a gas blowout, according to Egypt Oil & Gas Newspaper. The field is operated by Canadian Mediterra Energy We located the plume pretty quick at 29.46°N, 32.84°E thanks to NASA/Zoom Earth. Below is also a zoomed-in image by Planet Labs. The site is located 19km southeast of the Ras Sudr Oil Terminal along the Gulf of Suez (southeast of the Suez Canal), and is also across the water from the SUMED (Suez-Mediterranean) pipeline and storage factility in Ain Sokhna.
UPDATE: 2018-12-17 We can see that the plume has begun to thin out over the past 48 hours.
